Distinguished Alumni Award

Carol Morgan School honors an alum who has excelled in their leadership roles, contributions to society, and demonstrated character skills reflecting values such as conscientiousness, openness to learning, and honesty. This recognition has been given every year since 2003.

The Distinguished Alumni Award recipient has the privilege of addressing the graduating class during the Senior Alumni Reception. This presents an opportunity to motivate them to serve as leaders in our society, maintain a close relationship with Carol Morgan School, and uphold and live by the values shared by the CMS community. Distinguished Alumni Award recipients join a notable group of alums who have been presented with this recognition in the past.

2024 Distinguished Alumni Award Recipient - Laura Peña Izquierdo, Class of 1990

Laura Peña Izquierdo

Class of 1990

Laura Peña Izquierdo is the Executive Vice President – ​​General Manager of Peña Izquierdo, Insurance Brokers. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration (Summa Cum Laude) from the Universidad Iberoamericana and a Master's degree in Insurance Sciences from the University of Hartford in Connecticut, and a specialization in Senior Business Management from Barna Management School. She complements her business and insurance activity as a teacher at Unibe with their Insurance Diploma and at PUCMM with their Insurance Administration Master's Degree.

Laura carries out productive and ongoing work in unions, associations, and non-profit institutions and has chaired some of them.

During her administration as president of the National Association of Young Entrepreneurs (ANJE) (2013-2014), she signed the Pact for Quality Education and the Electricity Forum, which served as a relude to the Electricity Pact; both pacts are part of the National Development Strategy 2030.

Requirements

Nominee Must:

  • Have attended CMS for 5 years or more or graduated from the school.

  • Be an individual with demonstrated academic and professional achievements who has obtained distinction in their field of expertise.

  • Demonstrate active participation in community service.

  • Exemplify positive attitudes about life and uphold principles of morality, ethics and other character skills.

  • Demonstrate leadership and reliability in their professional endeavors. 

Notes:

  • Alumni cannot self-nominate. Anyone can nominate more than one alum.

  • Each candidate can only be nominated once, being nominated by more than one person is not a selection criteria.

Nomination:

  • Candidates for this distinction must be nominated by a CMS alum, and the recipient is chosen by the Selection Committee, according to established criteria. The selection criteria includes, among other conditions, leadership, relationship with CMS and community service.

Selection Process:

  • During the selection process, the nominated candidates will be requested to submit their CV’s and any other relevant information.  Submitted materials will be evaluated by the Selection Committee, which is composed of the Executive Alumni Committee as well as former Alumni Chairs. The results are then presented to the CMS Board of Directors for their knowledge and no objection.
