The Counseling Department at Carol Morgan School collaborates with students, parents, teachers, and the academic leadership team to support all students through a comprehensive and developmental approach that addresses the four domains outlined by the International School Counselor Association – academic, personal/social, career, and global perspective. The well-articulated PK-12 International Model for school counseling provides instruction, support and caring at every level. Services are provided to maximize academic achievement and promote the necessary skills, attitudes, and beliefs for all students to strengthen their unique capabilities and enable them to participate as responsible citizens in a global society.

Elementary School Students’ Developmental Needs
The elementary years are a time when students begin to develop their academic self-concept and their feelings of competence and confidence as learners. They are beginning to develop decision-making, communication, and life skills, as well as character values. It is also a time when students develop and acquire attitudes toward school, self, peers, social groups, and family. Comprehensive developmental school counseling programs provide education, prevention, and intervention services that are integrated into all aspects of children’s lives. Early identification and intervention of children’s academic and personal/social needs is essential in removing barriers to learning and in promoting academic achievement. The knowledge, attitudes, and skills that students acquire in the areas of academic, career, and personal/social development during these elementary years serve as the foundation for future success.

Character Education
Carol Morgan School has a comprehensive approach to character education, which is supported by Second Step, an evidence-based program as well as our four CMS core values - Connect, Care, Create and Contribute. These initiatives are integral to the educational process and community building at Carol Morgan School.

The ES Counseling Program Provides:

Orientation
It is our goal to ensure that each new student has a smooth transition to CMS. Welcoming new students and their parents, providing them with an orientation of our Elementary School, and supporting each student’s adjustment to his/her new environment comprise the foundation that we build upon to make certain that each student succeeds socially and academically.
